• Creating a BEMP profile in BEMP Enhancer

Corsair is a famous vendor of DRAM modules for enthusiasts. Its fervent intentions to be the first player on the market are well known. DDR3 memory modules being produced by the company are passed Intel XMP certification easily since there is a close cooperation between Corsair and Intel. But how things go on in respect to AMD BEMP as a competitive solution to Intel XMP? It seems to be not as good as we would like. It is very difficult to find any information on BEMP (Black Edition Memory Profiles) for Corsair DDR3 BEMP-certified modules. So, how can we enjoy the benefits of over-clocking capabilities if the popular AMD OverDrive software cannot find BEMP profiles for appropriate Corsair parts? And what we can do if Corsair technical support team does not replies to our emails every time we ask it to help us with BEMP? OK, let’s see...

For this article we choose Corsair CMD8GX3M4A1333C7 8GB Dominator Kit. According to the poor official technical note posted at vendor’s website, the kit is capable of running at latencies of 7-7-7-20. That is all we could find on the website. Moreover, the company did not even bother to inform that the kit is BEMP-compliant what was a big surprise for us. No doubt, it is a shame for such a company like Corsair. So, as the AMD OverDrive utility is unable to find the native BEMP profile for CMD8GX3M4A1333C7 part at AMD on-line BEMP repository we will try to create our own profile that is expected to be not different from the original one.

Before creating BEMP we should know values of latencies to be used for tCL, tRCD, tRP, tRAS, tRC, tRFC, tRRD, tRTP, tWR, tWTR, CMD Rate. From the information we found at vendor’s website the first four timing parameters need to be set to 7T, 7T, 7T, 20T respectively. The last seven latencies are not known for the giving module kit.

Basically, 7-7-7-20 is a typical formula for many Corsair DDR3 XMP-featured parts. Therefore, we need to find any Corsair SPD firmware with similar XMP-latencies. Thanks to the largest SPD firmware database and SPD Browser from Thaiphoon Burner we found the firmware of the Corsair XMS3 CM3X1024-1600C7DHX module. Now look at the picture below – the SPD firmware contains the XMP profile exactly we need for creating BEMP.

The only exception is a clock frequency that should be set to the nominal 667 MHz. VDDQ Voltage should be set to 1.60V or 1.65V. Now open BEMP Enhancer by choosing BEMP Enhancer from the Tools main menu. In the BEMP Enhancer window choose Profile and select Create New to fill the text boxes of the Hardware Identification Group automatically. Now all the empty group boxes of the Manual Configuration Group need to be set in accordance with the following picture.

Great job! BEMP is ready to be used. Choose Profile and Save As to save your BEMP to XML file for future use through the AMD OverDrive utility.
